About Course

Lexfolio’s Certificate Course in Legal Drafting teaches you to draft the documents that everyday legal work runs on: legal notices, affidavits, applications and petitions, and agreements. The course is practical and India-focused, and reflects the law as on 18 October 2026, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, in force since 1 July 2024.

What you will learn

  • Core drafting principles: structure, plain language, precision, defined terms, recitals, operative clauses and boilerplate.
  • Legal notices: money recovery notices, cheque dishonour notices under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, notices to the Government under section 80 of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, tenancy and arbitration notices, service and replies.
  • Affidavits and verification: oath and affirmation, attestation and notarisation, stamp duty basics (which are State-specific), verification clauses and the consequences of false statements.
  • Applications and petitions: cause title, body, prayer, verification, supporting affidavits, interlocutory applications, consumer complaints and RTI applications.

Who it is for

Law students, young advocates, paralegals, and professionals who are not lawyers but handle legal documents in offices, businesses, HR teams and property matters. The course starts from the basics and builds to intermediate level, with model clauses, worked examples and defect-spotting exercises.

How the course and certificate work

  • The course has 8 self-paced modules of text lessons. Each module ends with a short quiz to check your understanding.
  • After completing the lessons, you take an online final test of 30 multiple choice questions with a time limit of 45 minutes. The pass mark is 60 percent.
  • On passing, you receive a certificate of completion from Lexfolio with a unique certificate ID that can be verified online, which you can add to your CV.
  • The certificate is a certificate of completion of a Lexfolio course. It is not a degree, diploma or regulatory qualification, and it does not confer any right to practise law.

This course is educational. It explains the law and drafting practice in general terms and does not provide legal advice on any particular matter. For a live matter, check the facts and the current law of the State concerned, and consult an advocate where needed.
