About Course

A single marketing campaign in India can now be examined by the Central Consumer Protection Authority, ASCI, a sector regulator, a competitor in the High Court and consumers on e-Jagriti, all at once. Influencer posts without proper labels, “No. 1” claims without data, countdown timers that never end, a film still in a moment marketing post, a lucky draw tied to purchase or a pre-ticked consent box can each lead to withdrawn campaigns, penalties, injunctions and public rulings. This course gives marketing students and professionals a clear, practical command of Indian marketing and advertising law, with business scenarios, decision checklists and ready templates.

What you will learn

  • How the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 defines misleading advertisements (s.2(28)) and endorsements, and the CCPA’s penalties under s.21 and the offence in s.89
  • The CCPA’s 2022 Guidelines on misleading ads and endorsements, plus the coaching (2024) and greenwashing (2024) guidelines
  • The ASCI Code, its complaint process, and the influencer guidelines including labels, placement and the 2025 health and finance update
  • Endorser liability, the 2023 Endorsement Know-hows and how brands support due diligence
  • The 13 dark patterns under the 2023 Guidelines and how to run the self-audit the CCPA asked for in 2025
  • Sector rules: Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, FSS advertising and claims rules, tobacco and alcohol surrogates, SEBI, IRDAI and RBI expectations, RERA and the Online Gaming Act in force from 1 May 2026
  • Comparative advertising and disparagement (Trade Marks Act s.29(8) and s.30), copyright in creatives and music, memes, personality rights and AI-generated creatives
  • Contest and lottery law, TRAI’s TCCCPR and DLT for SMS and calls, the DPDP Act’s consent, cookie and children’s data rules, and a toolkit of checklists, contract clauses and a claims substantiation template

Who this course is for

MBA and BBA marketing students, brand and product managers, social media and performance marketers, influencer and PR teams, agency account and creative teams, start-up founders and D2C operators. No legal background is needed.

How the course works

6 modules and 18 self-paced text lessons, with a 5 question quiz after each module. Every lesson uses business scenarios with invented Indian companies, explains the rules with exact sections and dates, and ends with key takeaways. The final module is a practical toolkit: a campaign legal review checklist, a notice response plan, model influencer contract clauses and a claims substantiation file template.

How the certificate works

  • Final test of 30 multiple choice questions, mostly practical business scenarios, in 45 minutes
  • Pass mark 60 percent; you can retry if you do not pass
  • On passing, you receive a certificate with a unique ID that anyone can verify at lexfolio.in/verify-certificate/
  • This is a certificate of completion issued by Lexfolio. It is not a degree, diploma or professional qualification, and it does not entitle anyone to practise law.

How to show this on your CV and LinkedIn

List it under “Certifications” or “Licences and certifications” as “Certificate Course in Marketing and Advertising Law in India (Lexfolio), certificate of completion, [month and year]”, and add the certificate ID or verification link so recruiters can check it. In interviews, talk about what you can do: review a campaign against ASCI and CCPA rules, brief influencers on disclosure, spot dark patterns and build a claims substantiation file. Describe it honestly as a short online certificate of completion, not a degree or professional qualification.
