Description

Selling on Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, your own website or Instagram brings orders, and also GST rules, marketplace tax deductions, Legal Metrology label checks, product licences, consumer complaints, fake review crackdowns, counterfeit sellers hijacking your listings and, from May 2027, data protection duties. Most small sellers learn these rules only after a payout is frozen, stock is seized or an account is suspended. This course gives online sellers a clear, practical command of the law that applies to them, with exact sections and rules, worked Indian examples, checklists and ready templates.

What you will learn

  • How to choose between a proprietorship, LLP and company, register on Udyam, and get through marketplace onboarding
  • When GST registration is compulsory for online sellers, the section 24 marketplace rule, and the 2023 relaxation for small intra-state and composition sellers
  • GST TCS by e-commerce operators under section 52 (0.5 percent from 10 July 2024) and income-tax TDS under section 393 of the Income-tax Act, 2025, and how to reconcile and claim both
  • The mandatory label declarations under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, what must appear on listings, and registration of packers and importers under rule 27
  • Product licences: FSSAI for food (including home bakers), BIS Quality Control Orders and CRS for toys and electronics, cosmetics, ayurvedic products and medicines
  • Seller duties under the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, the 13 dark patterns, fake reviews and IS 19000:2022, and the basics of influencer promotions
  • Protecting your brand and product photos, fighting counterfeits and listing hijacking, and handling returns, refunds, chargebacks and COD fraud
  • Customer data duties under the DPDP Act, handling consumer complaints and account suspensions, with a launch checklist, label template and model policies and replies

Who this course is for

Small manufacturers, resellers, home businesses, artisans and D2C brands selling through marketplaces, their own website or social media, and the family members, catalogue managers and young accountants who help them. No legal background is needed.

How the course works

6 modules and 18 self-paced text lessons, with a 5 question quiz after each module. Every lesson explains the rule with exact section or rule numbers, applies it to an Indian seller through a worked example, and ends with key takeaways. The final module is a practical toolkit: a launch checklist in order, a label template, a returns policy outline, a privacy notice outline, a model reply to a consumer notice and a takedown complaint, all with placeholders.

How the certificate works

  • Final test of 30 multiple choice questions, mostly practical seller scenarios, in 45 minutes
  • Pass mark 60 percent; you can retry if you do not pass
  • On passing, you receive a certificate with a unique ID that anyone can verify at lexfolio.in/verify-certificate/
  • This is a certificate of completion issued by Lexfolio. It is not a degree, diploma or professional qualification, and it does not entitle anyone to practise law.
