Best Books for AIBE Preparation: What to Actually Buy

Written by

Rather than naming a single “best book” (every candidate’s starting point and strengths differ), here’s how to actually choose AIBE preparation material without wasting money on redundant titles.

What AIBE actually tests

AIBE is an open-book exam testing baseline competence across 19 subjects, with the Bar Council of India’s official study material being the one resource every candidate should have, since questions are drawn to be answerable from it directly.

How to choose beyond the official material

  • A single consolidated bare-acts volume covering the core codes (CPC, CrPC/BNSS, Evidence/BSA, IPC/BNS, Contract Act, Transfer of Property Act) is more useful than multiple overlapping guide books, since AIBE is open-book and exam-hall efficiency with your own material matters more than which publisher’s name is on the cover.
  • A compact MCQ practice book for the subjects you feel weakest in, rather than one giant generic question bank covering everything at surface depth.
  • Previous years’ AIBE question papers (freely available from the Bar Council of India’s website) — practicing with real past papers tells you more about the actual difficulty and pattern than any third-party guide.

What to skip

Expensive “complete AIBE kit” bundles that repackage freely available bare acts and past papers at a markup — check what’s actually inside before paying for convenience you can replicate for free.
