Description

Cyber crime now reaches offices and campuses every week: an accounts officer pays a vendor’s “new” bank account, a senior professor is held on a video call in a fake “digital arrest”, staff receive WhatsApp requests for gift cards from “the Vice-Chancellor”, a hostel spreadsheet leaks, a server is locked by ransomware, a forged office order goes viral. Each of these is a legal event for the institution and its officers, with reporting deadlines, personal liability and evidence rules that most officers have never been taught. This course gives officers and administrators a clear, practical command of the law and a ready plan for what to do, in order, when it happens.

What you will learn

  • The cyber law map: the IT Act, the BNS, BNSS, BSA and the DPDP Act, and which law prevails when they overlap
  • The principal offences and punishments: ss.66, 66C, 66D, 66E, 67, 67A, 67B, 72A of the IT Act, and BNS extortion, forgery, defamation, stalking and organised crime
  • How digital arrest, phishing, look-alike domains, vendor bank-change fraud and head-of-institution impersonation work, and who bears the loss
  • How to separate protected criticism from defamation and forgery, and the removal ladder under the IT Rules as amended in 2026 (2-hour and 3-hour timelines, Grievance Appellate Committee)
  • The warden’s correct response to sextortion, mandatory POCSO reporting, StopNCII and the Mrs X judgment
  • CERT-In’s six-hour reporting rule, 180-day logs, data leak liability, the DPDP Act from 13 May 2027 and officer liability under Section 85
  • Copyright versus designs for creative work, and the fifty-copies rule
  • Criminal, civil and regulatory remedies, the Section 63 BSA evidence certificate, and an eight-point institutional preparedness plan with model formats

Who this course is for

Government and PSU officers; college, university and school administrators, principals, registrars, wardens and mentors; HR, accounts and IT staff; office managers and compliance teams; and law students who want a practical, institution-focused understanding of cyber crime law. No legal or technical background is needed.

How the course works

6 modules, 18 lessons, with a quiz of 5 questions after each module. Every lesson works through real situations and reported case studies, analyses them in law, and ends with key takeaways. The last module is a practical toolkit: the order of steps in an incident, an eight-point preparedness plan, and model formats including a vendor bank-change clause, a standing instruction on messaging-app requests, an incident procedure outline, a takedown complaint and a warden’s checklist.

How the certificate works

  • A final test of 30 multiple-choice questions, mostly real-life situations, with a 45-minute time limit
  • Pass mark 60%; you can retry if you do not pass
  • On passing, you receive a Lexfolio certificate with a unique ID that anyone can verify online at lexfolio.in/verify-certificate/
  • It is a certificate of completion from Lexfolio, not a degree, diploma or professional qualification
