Rajasthan Judiciary (RJS) Exam Preparation Guide

The Rajasthan Judicial Service (RJS) exam, conducted by the Rajasthan High Court, is a frequent target for Rajasthan-based law graduates. Here’s a realistic self-study structure.

What the exam tests

RJS tests the core codes (CPC, CrPC/BNSS, Evidence/BSA, IPC/BNS, Contract, Transfer of Property Act) at depth, alongside Rajasthan-specific local laws — the Rajasthan Tenancy Act, 1955, Rajasthan Land Revenue Act, 1956, and Rajasthan Rent Control Act provisions relevant to civil practice in the state. Rajasthan also conducts the exam partly in Hindi, which candidates should factor into their preparation.

A structured self-study approach

  • Build bare-act-first notes for the core codes, in the language (Hindi or English) you’ll actually write mains answers in.
  • Dedicate specific study time to Rajasthan’s land and tenancy laws, which generic national judiciary-prep material typically skips.
  • Practice mains answer-writing early, since RJS mains rewards structured legal drafting and judgment-writing skill as much as substantive recall.

Why Hindi-medium preparation matters here

Candidates who studied LL.B. in English but plan to attempt RJS mains in Hindi should build subject notes bilingually well before the exam, rather than attempting to translate legal concepts under exam-time pressure.

Realistic timeline

An 8-12 month preparation cycle is typical, with the final quarter weighted towards mains answer-writing and current legal affairs revision.
