AILET 2027 exam pattern: section-wise

SectionQuestions and marksShare of paper
A. English Language50About 33%
B. Current Affairs and General Knowledge3020%
C. Logical Reasoning70About 47%
Total150100%

NLU Delhi’s exam details page adds one important line: legal principles may be used in the Logical Reasoning section to test logical aptitude, but the examination will not require any legal knowledge or technical understanding. In other words, there is no separate Legal Reasoning section in AILET, unlike CLAT, but you can still see principle-fact style questions inside Logical Reasoning.

Timing matters. You have 120 minutes for 150 questions, which is 48 seconds a question on average. Logical Reasoning alone is 70 questions, so time management in that section largely decides your score.

AILET marking scheme and tie-breakers

  • Correct answer: 1 mark.
  • Wrong answer: 0.25 marks deducted. NLU Delhi explains it as “0.25*4=1”, meaning four wrong answers cost one mark.
  • Unattempted: no marks, no deduction.
  • Tie-breaking: higher marks in Logical Reasoning first, then the candidate senior in age, then a computerised draw of lots.

Example: Tanvi from Bhopal attempts 128 questions, gets 100 right and 28 wrong. Her score is 100 minus 7, which is 93 out of 150.

AILET syllabus 2027: what each section tests

NLU Delhi’s official page gives the section names and question counts rather than a detailed topic list, so prepare the skills each section plainly demands:

  • English Language: reading comprehension, vocabulary in context, grammar and usage, inference from passages.
  • Current Affairs and GK: national and international events, especially of 2026, with static background (Constitution, institutions, awards, sports). See our list of current affairs 2026 important topics; it works for AILET too.
  • Logical Reasoning: critical reasoning (arguments, assumptions, strengthen and weaken), analytical puzzles, and principle-based questions that need no prior law.

NLU Delhi’s website also links previous year AILET BA LLB question papers from the exam details page. Solve them first to see the level.

Practise this in exam conditions. The AILET 2027 Mock Tests give three full-length BA LLB papers for 13 December 2026, each with 150 questions in the real split (English 50, Current Affairs and GK 30, Logical Reasoning 70), original passages and verified current affairs. AILET 2027 Mock Tests, ₹149. If you are writing CLAT too, the CLAT UG Complete Pack, ₹549 includes these three AILET mocks.

AILET eligibility for BA LLB (Hons)

  • Qualifying exam: 10+2 or equivalent with at least 45% aggregate marks (42% for OBC, 40% for SC, ST and Persons with Disability).
  • Appearing candidates: students appearing for or awaiting their Class 12 results can apply and sit the test, but must meet eligibility by the cut-off date NLU Delhi notifies with the result. A candidate placed in compartment in the year of admission is treated as ineligible.
  • Age: NLU Delhi’s FAQ states there is no maximum or minimum age limit for AILET 2027.
  • Foreign Nationals: 65% in 10+2; exempt from the test; merit on qualifying exam marks. OCI/PIO candidates may apply in their own category and separately as Indian candidates.
  • No NRI seats at NLU Delhi, according to its FAQ.

Application, fee and test cities

  • Fee: ₹3,000; ₹1,000 for SC, ST and PwD candidates. The FAQ states that SC/ST and women candidates who are Below Poverty Line (BPL) are exempted from the online application fee.
  • Last date: 10 November 2026 for Indian candidates. Corrections are allowed for 3 days after that date.
  • Test cities: 32 cities including Delhi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Patna, Jaipur, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. You may give three preferences. A centre is not created in a city where fewer than 200 candidates choose it.
  • Only through AILET: NLU Delhi does not admit through CLAT or LSAT.
