Not every CLAT 2027 aspirant in Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh can afford a full-time coaching programme. Here’s a realistic self-study route, with what’s actually available free and low-cost.
What coaching actually gives you (and what you can replace)
Coaching institutes mainly offer: a structured timetable, mock tests with All-India ranking, doubt-clearing, and curated current-affairs updates. A disciplined self-study student can replace most of this with free mock test series, a fixed daily revision schedule, and a small peer group for doubt discussion — the one thing harder to replace is the social pressure of a batch schedule, which you’ll need to build yourself through self-discipline.
Free and low-cost resources for UP-based aspirants
- Free CLAT mock tests (see our guide on what to look for in a mock test series before picking one).
- NCERT textbooks (Class 6-12 Political Science, History, Economics) remain the base for CLAT’s Current Affairs and Legal Reasoning GK — most UP students already have these from school and don’t need to buy fresh study material.
- Daily newspaper reading (The Hindu or similar) for current affairs, which also builds the reading speed CLAT’s English and RC sections reward.
Why location matters less than it used to
CLAT is a national, remote-friendly exam to prepare for — unlike litigation practice, preparation doesn’t require physical proximity to any particular city. Online test series and video content have closed most of the gap that used to exist between metro and non-metro aspirants.
A realistic weekly structure
- 5-6 days of subject-wise study (Legal Reasoning and English first, since these carry the heaviest weightage).
- 1-2 full-length mocks per week once you’ve covered the basics, increasing frequency closer to the exam.
- Daily 20-30 minutes of newspaper/current-affairs reading, year-round.
