The best CLAT notes for 2027 are short, section-wise notes built for a passage-based paper: a one-page method for each of the five sections, a legal reasoning concepts sheet, a month-wise current affairs file for 2026, and your own error log from mocks. CLAT 2027 on 6 December 2026 tests reading and reasoning on about 450-word passages, so thick static GK or law textbooks are the wrong study material. Keep everything you will revise to roughly 60 to 80 pages in total.
| Point | Position |
|---|---|
| What CLAT tests | Comprehension and reasoning on passages, not memorised facts |
| Legal Reasoning | No prior knowledge of law required (official syllabus); concept notes help speed |
| Current Affairs | Passages from news and non-fiction; questions on significant Indian and world events |
| Quant level | Class 10 mathematics: ratios, algebra, mensuration, statistics |
| Ideal note size | About 60 to 80 pages in all, revisable in two days |
| Most useful single note | Your own mock error log |
| Time left | 38 days from 29 October to 6 December 2026 |
Why CLAT study material looks different from school notes
The Consortium’s CLAT 2027 UG syllabus is clear. In English, Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning and Logical Reasoning you get passages of about 450 words followed by questions. Legal Reasoning passages carry the principle you need, and the syllabus says you will not need prior knowledge of law. Even current affairs questions are asked on a passage.
So the best CLAT notes are not information dumps. A 400-page GK PDF will not help you answer a question about the inference an author draws in paragraph three. What helps is a method you can apply fast, plus enough background so that a passage on, say, a new criminal law or an international treaty does not feel foreign.
Best CLAT notes 2027: what each section needs
- English Language: one page on question types (main idea, tone, inference, meaning in context, author’s view) with the trap each one hides. A running list of 10 to 15 new words a day, written with the sentence you found them in.
- Current Affairs including GK: a month-wise file of 2026 events (January to November): Supreme Court rulings, new Acts and Bills, appointments, summits, awards, reports and indices. Keep each item to 2 to 4 lines with the “why it matters” angle, because passages ask about background.
- Legal Reasoning: plain-language concept notes on torts (negligence, nuisance, defamation, vicarious liability), contract (offer, acceptance, consideration, free consent), criminal law under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (general exceptions, private defence), the Constitution (fundamental rights) and consumer and family law basics. These help you read the principle faster; they never replace the principle given in the passage.
- Logical Reasoning: one sheet on argument structure: premise, conclusion, assumption, strengthen, weaken, inference, flaw. See our CLAT logical reasoning preparation guide.
- Quantitative Techniques: a two-page formula sheet: percentages, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, averages, simple and compound interest, time and work, areas and volumes, mean and median.
Practise this in exam conditions. The CLAT UG 2027 Crash Course covers Legal Reasoning and Current Affairs, about half the paper, with the principle-fact method, examiner traps, plain-language notes on the Constitution, torts, contract, criminal law under the BNS, family and consumer law, and practice questions. CLAT UG 2027 Crash Course, ₹249. For current affairs on their own, see Legal Current Affairs 2026, ₹249.
How to judge any CLAT notes PDF before you rely on it
- Is it dated? Current affairs notes must cover 2026. A file that stops in 2025 misses most of what CLAT 2027 can ask.
- Is the law current? The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam replaced the IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act from 1 July 2024. Legal reasoning notes still built only on the IPC are out of date.
- Does it explain, or only list? “Why it matters” lines beat bare one-liners, because CLAT asks reasoning questions on the background.
- Does it come with questions? Notes without practice questions are hard to test yourself on.
- Is it short enough to revise twice? If you cannot finish it twice before 6 December, it is too long for this stage.
Build your own notes from mocks: the error log
The most valuable CLAT preparation material you will own is the one you write yourself. After each mock, note every wrong or guessed question in a simple table: section, question type, why you got it wrong (misread, did not know, ran out of time, fell for a trap) and the correct reasoning in one line.
Suppose Aditi from Lucknow finds, after four mocks, that most of her Legal Reasoning errors come from applying her own sense of fairness instead of the passage’s principle. One rule written at the top of her notes (“apply the principle as given, even if it seems unfair”) fixed most of them. That line is worth more than fifty pages of borrowed notes. Our mock analysis guide shows the full method.
A revision plan for your notes until 6 December
- 29 October to 15 November: finish your current affairs file to the end of October; complete the legal concepts sheet; write two mocks a week and start the error log.
- 16 to 30 November: add November current affairs weekly; revise the whole note set once; three mocks a week.
- 1 to 5 December: only your error log, the current affairs file and the formula sheet. No new material.

Frequently asked questions
What are the best CLAT notes for 2027?
The best CLAT notes for 2027 are short section-wise notes: question-type methods for English and Logical Reasoning, plain-language legal concepts, a month-wise 2026 current affairs file and a Quant formula sheet. Add your own mock error log. Together these should be about 60 to 80 pages so you can revise them twice before 6 December 2026.
Do I need law notes for CLAT legal reasoning?
The official CLAT 2027 syllabus says no prior knowledge of law is needed, because each passage gives the principle. Basic concept notes on torts, contract, criminal law and the Constitution still help you read faster and spot traps. Always apply the principle stated in the passage, not outside law.
Is a CLAT notes PDF enough to crack the exam?
No set of notes is enough on its own. CLAT rewards reading speed and reasoning, which come from timed practice on passages and full-length mocks. Use notes to support practice, not to replace it.
From when should current affairs notes for CLAT 2027 start?
Most students cover the 12 months before the exam, so roughly December 2025 to November 2026, with the heaviest focus on 2026. Keep updating your file weekly until the end of November.
