CLAT 2027 syllabus: English Language
The Consortium says passages of about 450 words are drawn from contemporary or historically significant fiction and non-fiction, at a level a Class 12 student can read in about 5 to 7 minutes. Questions ask you to find the main point, follow arguments and viewpoints, draw inferences, summarise, compare and contrast viewpoints, and read words and phrases in context. Grammar rules as such are not listed. Practise on varied prose; our CLAT English preparation tips show how.
CLAT UG syllabus for Current Affairs and General Knowledge
Passages of up to 450 words come from news, journalism and other non-fiction. The syllabus names four areas: contemporary events of significance from India and the world, arts and culture, international affairs, and historical events of continuing significance. Questions may touch legal information found in or related to the passage but need no extra legal knowledge. Prior knowledge “occasionally may be useful”, which is the Consortium’s own phrase, so reading widely helps but a memorised list of facts is not the syllabus. See CLAT GK static topics and how to prepare current affairs.
Practise this in exam conditions. Legal Reasoning and Current Affairs make up about half of the CLAT UG paper. The CLAT UG 2027 Crash Course covers both: the principle-fact method, examiner traps, plain-language notes on the Constitution, torts, contract, criminal law under the BNS, family and consumer law, and practice questions. CLAT syllabus for Legal Reasoning
Passages of around 450 words describe fact situations, public policy questions or moral and philosophical enquiries. The official syllabus says you do not need prior knowledge of law, though awareness of contemporary legal and moral issues helps. You will be asked to identify and infer the rules and principles in the passage, apply them to fact situations, and see how a change in a rule changes the outcome. So the skill is rule application, not memorising sections. Start with important Legal Reasoning topics and practise with CLAT legal reasoning MCQs with answers.
CLAT syllabus for Logical Reasoning
Short passages of about 450 words are followed by one or more questions. You must recognise an argument with its premises and conclusion, analyse patterns of reasoning, judge how a conclusion is strengthened or weakened when a premise changes, infer what follows, and spot analogies, contradictions and equivalence. Puzzles and seating arrangements are not named in the syllabus. The CLAT logical reasoning preparation guide builds this skill.
CLAT 2027 syllabus for Quantitative Techniques
Short sets of facts or other textual representations of numerical information are followed by questions. You derive and manipulate numerical information and apply 10th standard mathematical operations, including ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation. With only 10 to 14 questions, it is the smallest section, but a few correct answers move your rank. See CLAT quantitative techniques preparation.
What recent papers show about the syllabus
LiveLaw’s analysis of CLAT 2026 reported that General Knowledge passages touched American taxation, the SCO, Air India and Pahalgam, that Legal Reasoning drew on same-sex marriage, governance and basic legal principles, and that English included literature-based passages. These are examples of treatment, not a forecast. The syllabus the Consortium publishes is the only list that binds, and it has said the pattern for 2027 is unchanged, with the Expert Committee’s recommendations to be considered where possible.
