CUET PG law syllabus: what the LL.M. paper covers

Published summaries of NTA’s LL.M. syllabus list the subjects below. They differ at the edges (some add IPR, RTI and Women and Criminal Law), so treat NTA’s syllabus document on its CUET (PG) site as the final list.

  • Core: Constitutional Law, Contract Law, Law of Torts, Criminal Law and procedure, Law of Evidence, Civil Procedure Code and Limitation Act, Property Law, Family Law, Company Law, Administrative Law and Jurisprudence.
  • Allied and specialised: Environmental Law, Labour Law, Public International Law, Human Rights Law, Professional Ethics, ADR, Statutory Interpretation, Banking Law, Insurance Law, Competition Law, Penology and Victimology.

The syllabus names the IPC and CrPC. Since 1 July 2024 these have been replaced by the BNS, BNSS and BSA, so learn the new sections with the old numbers beside them. Our New Criminal Laws Guide, ₹149 carries verified correspondence tables for 396 IPC, 217 CrPC and 95 Evidence Act provisions.

For the three-year LL.B. through the general paper, the reported content is language comprehension, general knowledge including current affairs and legal awareness, computer basics, and logical reasoning and aptitude. Read the pattern guide for details: CUET PG law 2027 pattern and syllabus.

A 17-week CUET PG LLM preparation plan

WeeksPlan
1 to 8First pass over the eleven core subjects: bare Act or textbook chapter, then one page of notes and 30 MCQs per topic
9 to 12Allied and specialised subjects; second pass over the two weakest core subjects
13 to 16Two full 75-question mocks a week in 90 minutes; review each one the same day
17Error log and one-page notes only; no new topics

Practise this in exam conditions. Lexfolio does not sell a CUET PG product. The CLAT PG Crash Course (Complete) covers the same core subjects in 177 pages of notes with 210 explained practice MCQs and a 45-day plan, which suits subject revision. CLAT PG Crash Course (Complete), ₹599. For timed practice, the CLAT PG 2027 Online Test Series, ₹99 has three 120-minute online tests with explained answers. CLAT PG is passage-based, so use these for content and speed, not as a copy of the CUET format.

Negative marking strategy for CUET PG law

With 75 questions in 90 minutes you have 72 seconds a question. If the marking is +4 and -1, the arithmetic is simple:

  • A pure guess among four options is worth +0.25 marks on average (one chance in four of +4, three in four of -1).
  • Guessing after eliminating two options is worth +1.5 marks on average.
  • So attempt every question where you can remove at least two options, and treat a four-way guess as roughly break-even.

Best books for CUET PG law preparation

Use bare Acts and one standard textbook per subject rather than many. Well-known examples are M.P. Jain’s Indian Constitutional Law, Avtar Singh’s Law of Contract and Specific Relief and R.K. Bangia’s Law of Torts. For criminal law, read the BNS, BNSS and BSA directly. For revision, the official syllabus is the best checklist; tick off each topic only after you have solved questions on it.

Free official resources first: NTA’s information bulletin and syllabus for CUET (PG), and any sample or previous papers NTA publishes. Then add your own timed mocks. The decision between exams is covered in CLAT PG vs AILET PG vs CUET PG.
