An LLM through CLAT PG is a one-year LL.M. at a participating National Law University, offered on your rank in the CLAT PG paper (6 December 2026) and the Consortium’s counselling. LL.M. seats, specialisations and fees differ by NLU: the CLAT 2027 brochures we read list anywhere from 10 to 120 LL.M. seats and first-year fees stated on different bases. This guide gives the official brochure figures for 2027-28 and does not rank any university.

LLM through CLAT PG: how many NLUs and how many seats

The Consortium lists 27 participating universities for CLAT 2027. We read the LL.M. sections of 22 brochures, and all 22 list an LL.M.; the other five files (GNLU Silvassa’s own file, TNNLU, MNLU Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, DNLU and IIULER Goa) could not be read, so check them yourself. Seats change: the Consortium’s instructions say participating NLUs may change seat numbers and reservation policies. The table is alphabetical, not a ranking.

Other brochures give partial data. NLUO Odisha states ₹2,24,000 a year but no seat total; NLUJA Assam states ₹2,22,000; NLU Meghalaya states ₹1,83,000 for domicile and ₹3,02,500 for non-domicile students; NUALS Kochi lists 60 seats and fee items without a total; MNLU Mumbai lists 50 seats and MNLU Nagpur 60, without a fee; DSNLU lists 66 seats; DBRANLU lists 64 seats although its category rows add up to 67. Fee bases differ: some figures include hostel, mess or refundable deposits and some do not, so compare components, not totals. A brochure also says its fee is subject to revision.

LLM specialisations after CLAT PG

Specialisations are listed in the brochures and are often offered only if enough students choose them or faculty are available. Examples from the 2027 brochures:

  • NLSIU Bengaluru: Public Law, Criminal Law, Commercial Laws, Law and Technology, and a General stream.
  • WBNUJS Kolkata: Corporate and Commercial Law, International Law, Criminal and Security Law, Law and Technology, IPR Law, allotted by rank.
  • HNLU Raipur: Corporate Law, Technology and Law, Intellectual Property Rights Law.
  • GNLU Gandhinagar: Corporate and Business Law; Constitutional and Administrative Law; Criminal and Security Law; Intellectual Property Law. Its Silvassa campus offers Constitutional and Administrative Law only.
  • RMLNLU Lucknow: optional groups in Constitutional and Administrative Law, Corporate Law, Criminal and Security Law, International Law and IPR.

Choose by the subject you will research and the faculty, not only by the name of the university. Our guide on Company, Tax, Labour, Environment and International Law helps if you lean towards commercial law.

Practise this in exam conditions. A good rank decides which of these options you can choose. The CLAT PG Crash Course gives you notes on all 13 subjects in three parts, with 210 explained practice MCQs and a 45-day plan. CLAT PG Crash Course (complete), ₹599. All six CLAT PG products together are in the Complete Pack, ₹999. Start with the free CLAT PG mock test.

LLM admission after CLAT PG: the counselling process

The Consortium has not announced the 2027 counselling schedule. For the cycle after CLAT 2026 (held 7 December 2025), reports described registration from mid-December to 27 December 2025 with a registration fee of ₹30,000 for General and ₹20,000 for reserved categories, PG candidates giving at least five NLU preferences, and five allotment rounds from January to May 2026. Candidates chose Freeze (accept and confirm), Float (keep the seat, stay eligible for a higher preference) or Exit. Expect a similar structure, but wait for the 2027 notice.

Seat allotment and admission offers are provisional. At admission you must show original certificates for category claims, and a final-year LL.B. student must show proof of passing. State domicile and horizontal reservations (women, PwD) apply within each NLU’s matrix, so read the brochure of every NLU you rank.

How to choose between LL.M. options

  1. Total cost, not tuition. Add tuition, hostel, mess and deposits for the full year.
  2. Specialisation you can actually get. Check the minimum number of students and whether allotment is by rank.
  3. Seats and reservations. Look at how many seats are open to All India candidates versus domicile.
  4. Your plan. For teaching, the UGC-NET route also matters; see our UGC NET Law December 2026 guide.

Compare exams as well: CLAT PG, AILET PG and CUET PG lead to different sets of universities.
