Can you crack CLAT PG with a job?

Yes, and working professionals have one real advantage: CLAT PG is a reading test built on judgments and statutes, and a lawyer who reads judgments every day already has the core skill. The Consortium’s syllabus says the paper tests your ability to read a passage, identify the legal issue, summarise it and apply the law. What a full-time job takes away is time for the 13 subjects and stamina for a 120-minute paper. CLAT PG preparation for working professionals, or CLAT PG preparation with a job, therefore has to be selective (high-yield notes, not textbooks) and regular (a fixed daily slot, not weekend binges). There is no upper age limit for CLAT PG, so experience is no barrier.

CLAT PG preparation for working professionals: the 5-week study timetable

This CLAT PG study timetable starts on Friday 30 October 2026 and ends the day before the exam. Each weekday slot is two hours: the first hour on new content, the second on 15 to 20 practice questions from the same subject.

WeekSubjectsFull mocks
Week 1 (30 Oct to 5 Nov)Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, JurisprudenceSunday 1 November
Week 2 (6 to 12 Nov)Criminal Law (BNS, BNSS, BSA), Family Law, Property LawSunday 8 November
Week 3 (13 to 19 Nov)Contract, Torts and consumer law, Company Law with IBCSunday 15 November
Week 4 (20 to 26 Nov)Tax, Labour Codes, Environmental Law, Public International Law, 2026 judgmentsSaturday 21 and Sunday 22 November
Week 5 (27 Nov to 5 Dec)Revision of error log and weak subjects only; no new topicsSaturday 28 and Sunday 29 November

In the final week, keep weekday evenings light. If you can, take Friday 4 December off, revise your one-page notes, and rest on Saturday 5 December. For subject lists, use the constitutional law, criminal law and company, tax, labour and environmental law topic guides.

Short on time? Use notes built for the passage format. The CLAT PG complete pack puts the three-part crash course, 25 judgment passages from 2026, two full-length mocks and a year of legal current affairs in one place: 473 pages and 875 explained questions. CLAT PG 2027 Complete Pack, ₹999. If you only need timed practice, the CLAT PG 2027 online test series, ₹99 gives three full timed tests with explained answers.

How to make two hours a day count

  1. Fix the slot. Pick the same hour each morning before work. Morning study protects the time from late meetings and court overruns.
  2. Read one judgment passage a day. Ten to fifteen minutes on a recent Supreme Court ruling, with five questions afterwards, builds the reading speed the paper needs. The 25 CLAT PG judgment passages, ₹349 are built for this.
  3. Use your commute. Revise one-page summaries of Articles, sections and case names on your phone.
  4. Keep an error log. For every wrong answer write the topic, why you got it wrong (knowledge, reading, or guessing) and the correct rule. Read the log every Saturday.
  5. Treat Sunday 2 pm as the exam. Sit the mock in one go, then spend at least as long again on analysis. Start with the free CLAT PG 2027 online mock test.
  6. Control negative marking. With minus 0.25 per wrong answer, attempt a question only when you can eliminate at least two options.

CLAT PG preparation in final year LL.B.

Final-year LL.B. students may apply for CLAT PG 2027, provided they show proof of passing the qualifying exam with the required marks at the time of admission. The challenge is that university semester exams and internships often fall in November and December. Three adjustments help:

  • Overlap your syllabus. The syllabus describes all 13 CLAT PG subjects as mandatory undergraduate law subjects. If you have Company Law or Labour Law in your current semester, revise it for both exams together.
  • Protect the Sunday mock. Even in exam season, one full mock a week keeps the CLAT PG reading rhythm going.
  • Focus on what final-year students forget: first and second-year subjects such as Jurisprudence, Contract, Torts and Constitutional Law, studied years ago and easily forgotten.

Planning for the next cycle, and the job-versus-LL.M. question

If you are reading this too late for CLAT 2027, start six months before the next exam: three months for subjects at about one hour a day, two months for practice and sectional tests, and the last month for full mocks. Before you apply, also plan what happens after you get a seat. Most NLU LL.M. programmes are full-time, so check your notice period and leave rules, and decide early whether you will resign or seek a sabbatical. Some public sector employers also recruit law officers using CLAT PG scores; see PSU recruitment through CLAT PG before you decide how much the score matters to you.

Frequently asked questions

How should working professionals prepare for CLAT PG?

CLAT PG preparation for working professionals should rely on a fixed daily slot of about two hours, short high-yield notes for the 13 subjects, one judgment passage a day, and a full timed mock every Sunday at 2 pm. Spend as much time analysing each mock as taking it, and keep an error log.

Can I prepare for CLAT PG in one month with a job?

A month is tight but workable for a practising lawyer who already knows the core subjects. Spend three weeks on high-yield revision of all 13 subjects and the last week on full mocks, and do not start new textbooks.

How many hours a day should I study for CLAT PG with a job?

About two hours on weekdays and five to six hours on weekend days is a realistic minimum. Regular daily study matters more than long weekend sessions.

Is there an age limit for CLAT PG 2027?

No. There is no upper age limit for CLAT PG, so working lawyers of any age can apply if they meet the LL.B. marks requirement of 50% (45% for SC, ST and PwD candidates).

How many mock tests should I take before CLAT PG?

Take at least six full-length mocks under timed conditions before 6 December 2026, and more if you have time to analyse them properly. A mock you do not analyse adds little.
