Delhi APP Selection Process and Interview Explained

The Delhi APP selection process has two stages: the Recruitment Test (RT) on 9 January 2027 shortlists candidates, and a 100-mark interview decides the rest. Minimum qualifying marks in the interview are 50 for UR, 45 for OBC, and 40 for SC, ST and PwBD. The final merit list combines RT and interview marks in a 75:25 ratio, followed by document verification and a medical examination.

Stage 1: the Recruitment Test only shortlists

A common misunderstanding about the Delhi APP selection process is treating the RT as the whole exam. It is not. The RT is a 2-hour, English-medium, objective paper on 9 January 2027, with 1/3 mark negative marking per wrong answer, and its only job is to shortlist candidates for interview. UPSC has not pre-announced a qualifying cutoff for the RT itself; the number called for interview depends on how many vacancies need to be filled. Full pattern details are in our Delhi APP exam date and pattern 2027 guide.

Stage 2: the 100-mark interview

Candidates shortlisted from the RT appear for an interview carrying 100 marks. Minimum qualifying marks in the interview are 50 for UR, 45 for OBC, and 40 for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. A candidate who does not clear this minimum in the interview is not considered further, regardless of RT performance.

Prepare for both stages together. The Delhi APP Complete Pack bundles the mock papers and the plain-language notes so you can revise the law for the RT while also building the subject knowledge an interview panel is likely to probe. How final merit is calculated: the 75:25 ratio

The final merit list for Delhi APP recruitment combines RT marks and interview marks in a 75:25 ratio. This means the written RT carries the larger weight overall, but the interview still has real influence on the final rank, and a candidate must separately clear the interview’s own minimum qualifying marks. This 75:25 structure has been cross-confirmed against UPSC’s structurally similar CBI Assistant Public Prosecutor recruitment (Advertisement No. 12/2025), which follows the same RT-then-interview pattern.

Stage 3 and 4: document verification and medical examination

Candidates who clear both the RT shortlisting and the interview’s minimum marks proceed to document verification, where originals of educational certificates, bar enrolment proof, practice certificates, category certificates and age proof are checked against the application. This is followed by a medical examination, as is standard for Group A government posts. Selected candidates then join on a 2-year probation period that includes an induction training of at least 2 weeks.

Why the selection process matters for how you prepare

Because the RT only shortlists and does not decide final merit on its own, candidates should not stop preparing once the RT is over. Building genuine command of the BNS, BNSS, BSA, the Constitution and the special Acts named in the recruitment rules helps both in the RT and in an interview that is likely to test depth of understanding, not just recall. See our Delhi APP preparation strategy for how to plan this.
